This little scrolled opinions of Death everywhere that tells you what you have just read and what you are about to read.... makes this a great book for the mentally handicapped?
As for the 'great prose' ooooff! Someone said that it reads like the poetry diary of a 15-year old romantic. Shall I show you some which I randomly picked out (You really don't have to search for it)
3) p 504 Rosa with accordion on her lap: Even the wrinkles around her eyes were joining hands.
The accordion must have ached her, but she remained.
4) p 505 The greasy jungle of his fringe fell in clumps onto his forehead.
5) p 507 Hans Hubermann took a few abbreviated steps before the pain fractured in his leg and brought him down.
6) p 510 However she could also sense the bitter taste of questions in his mouth
(What they teach you in writing school is that the observer cannot see into the head of the other protagonist, so knowing what these questions taste like(!!!!???) is physically impossible and bad prose. )

You said: Now, on to "The Book Thief". It is an utterly amazing book, one of the best I've ever read. .... The other book or 2 that you have read must have been truly bad...... OR they went right over your head

Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14789904461716180331noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-485545007692129251.post-89133480970330802912012-05-06T18:58:01.853-04:002012-05-06T18:58:01.853-04:00Great reviewGreat reviewAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-485545007692129251.post-30616731932695006562011-04-07T17:56:16.222-04:002011-04-07T17:56:16.222-04:00I will check those titles out. Thanks for the recommendations. The Critical Fanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10189492650636896947noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-485545007692129251.post-90586308606230192482011-04-07T15:51:05.166-04:002011-04-07T15:51:05.166-04:00First of all, I completely disagree with your stat...First of all, I completely disagree with your statement that most YA fiction is trash. Much of it is, but there are plenty of great books and authors out there. Just a handful of titles: "Looking for Alaska" by John Green, M.T. Anderson's two-volume "Octavian Nothing" story, Jonathan Stroud's "Bartimaeus Trlogy", Gail Giles's compulsively readable thrillers, "Monster" by Walter Dean Myers... these are terrific stories and terrific writers.

Now, on to "The Book Thief". It is an utterly amazing book, one of the best I've ever read. Zusak's use of language and his powers of description are second to none, and the story is brilliantly told. There's not a second that could be cut, and not a second that is anything less than emotionally stunning. It really is a book that everyone should read, regardless of age.

Great review, by the way.Greg Boydhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08367592228032874654noreply@blogger.com
